2026 Mercedes VLE 300 Range: 700 km Mercedes-Benz has just unveiled its latest all-electric V-Class.
Also known as the VLE, it debuts with the brand’s new “Van Architecture” platform—a completely new platform designed to deliver the comfort of a limousine and the flexibility of a minivan.
To deliver on these promises, Mercedes has created a modular interior with fully adjustable and removable seats.
The seats have also been redesigned and now feature wireless charging, improved leg support, and massage functions.
The maximum DC charging power for the larger battery is 320 kW, while the smaller LFP battery can still be charged at up to 300 kW.
The 115 kWh battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 25 minutes, provided the charging station can deliver that power.
To ensure full VLE charging power under as many conditions as possible, the van is equipped with a pre-conditioning system similar to that found in current Mercedes passenger car models.
Battery pre-conditioning before a quick charging stop is initiated automatically via the navigation system to a saved charging station or manually via a button in the charging menu.
The VLE also displays the current battery temperature and the maximum possible charging power at any given moment, depending on factors such as temperature and state of charge.
For example, one of the pre-production vehicles presented in the photo studio indicated a possible charging power of 134 kW at a battery charge level of 71 percent and a temperature of 20 degrees.
It is currently impossible to assess whether the underlying algorithm meets production standards or whether this value is accurate.
However, the feature itself is present and is certainly very practical.
As for AC charging, a charging power of up to 22 kW has been confirmed for the VLE 300 and VLE 400 4MATIC.
This means the relatively large battery can be fully charged in 5.5 to 6 hours.
In other words: within four hours—the time when a parking fee is typically charged at public AC charging stations—the VLE can charge up to 88 kWh.
If the battery was not fully discharged upon arrival, this would correspond to a charge of approximately 80–90 percent.
The vehicle measures at least 5.31 meters in length, a full two meters in width, and 1.93 meters in height.
The company states that the wheelbase is 3.34 meters.
These are not unusual dimensions for an eight-seater van.
However, Mercedes decided not to use a shorter version, about five meters long with a three-meter wheelbase.
Since the wheelbase remains significantly longer than 3.30 meters, Mercedes offers the VLE with all-wheel steering.
This reduces the turning radius (from curb to curb) to an impressive 10.9 meters.
During the photo shoot, short test drives were conducted with the prototype in a parking lot to demonstrate the automated parking assistant in action.
Indeed, the VLE maneuvers more like a midsize passenger car than a large van, aside from the fact that its length of over 5.30 meters extends a few centimeters beyond the boundaries of many parking spaces.
Even with three rows of seats, the 795-liter cargo area remains useful.
If you remove all the manually adjustable seats (which isn’t easy to do with electric adjustment), the VLE can hold up to 4,078 liters—“enough space for luggage or sports equipment,” as Mercedes puts it.
