Porsche 935 (2019)
The Porsche 935 is an exclusive track car created by Porsche Motorsport to mark the 70th anniversary of the marque’s sports cars.
It is a modern interpretation of the legendary Porsche 935/78, nicknamed Moby Dick, and was designed for club competition and private track sessions.
The car was not homologated for racing and is not approved for use on public roads, giving the engineers considerable freedom in its development.
Engine and transmission
The Porsche 935 is based on the road-going 911 GT2 RS of the 991.2 generation.
Mounted behind the rear axle is a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six petrol engine, producing 700 PS at 7,000 rpm and 750 Nm of torque.
Rigid mounting of the powertrain improves the car’s response, while the centrally positioned exhaust system, with titanium pipes, is reminiscent of the racing Porsche 908.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a reinforced seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox.
The transmission features rigid mounting, active oil cooling and a racing limited-slip differential.
Porsche did not publish official acceleration or top-speed figures, as the car was intended for closed circuits and its performance could depend on the settings and configuration of the circuit.
Body and aerodynamics
The elongated body, almost 4.87 metres long, makes extensive use of carbon fibre and Kevlar.
Its silhouette echoes the historic Moby Dick, while a new rear wing more than 1.9 metres wide provides the required aerodynamic balance.
Covered rear wheels, ventilation slots in the front wings and extensive fairings give the car one of the most distinctive designs among modern Porsche track cars.
The exterior combines details inspired by different eras of the marque’s motorsport history.
LED lights at the ends of the rear wing recall the Porsche 919 Hybrid, the mirrors are taken from the racing 911 RSR, and the aerodynamic wheel covers reference the original 935/78. Historic racing liveries, including Martini Racing, were also available.
Interior
The single-seat cockpit is equipped with a safety cage, a carbon-fibre bucket seat and a six-point harness.
The carbon-fibre steering wheel and colour display come from the 911 GT3 R, while the wooden gear selector recalls classic Porsche racing cars.
A passenger seat was available to order, and air conditioning was included as standard equipment.
Key specifications
The 2019 Porsche 935 is a rare example of a car created without the constraints of road regulations or racing rules.
It combines the 700 PS engineering of the 911 GT2 RS with the functionality of a modern track car and the styling of the legendary Moby Dick, making it one of Porsche Motorsport’s most unusual collector projects.
