2023 Porsche 911 Dakar
The 2023 Porsche 911 Dakar is a limited-production, off-road interpretation of the iconic sports car, designed for use on tarmac, gravel, snow and sand.
It commemorates Porsche’s victory in the 1984 Paris–Dakar Rally, when a specially prepared 911 first secured the marque’s success in the legendary event.
Production is limited to 2,500 units.
Engine and performance
The 911 Dakar is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six engine producing 480 PS and 570 Nm of torque.
An enhanced air-filtration system and higher-capacity cooling fans are adapted for dusty conditions and low-speed driving.
The standard sports exhaust system retains the distinctive sound associated with the 911.
The engine is paired with an eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission and Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive.
The 0–100 km/h sprint takes 3.4 seconds, while top speed is limited to 240 km/h because of the off-road tyres.
Rear-axle steering, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) active roll stabilisation and dynamic engine mounts help retain the precision of a sports car.
Off-road capability
Ground clearance is increased by 50 mm compared with a 911 Carrera fitted with sports suspension.
The standard lift system can raise both the front and rear of the car by a further 30 mm, giving a maximum ground clearance of approximately 191 mm.
Rallye and Off-Road modes adapt torque distribution and electronic systems to loose surfaces, while Rallye Launch Control helps deliver an effective start on gravel.
The exterior features widened wheel arches, stainless-steel protective elements, red towing eyes and a fixed carbon-fibre rear spoiler.
The specially developed Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tyres have a deep tread and reinforced sidewalls.
The optional Rallye Design Package evokes the winning Porsche 953 with a two-tone body, decorative stripes and ‘Roughroads’ lettering.
Interior and equipment
The two-seat interior combines a sporting layout with the equipment of a modern 911. Carbon-fibre bucket seats, lightweight glass and the absence of rear seats help keep weight to 1,605 kg.
For longer off-road journeys, an optional roof rack was available with additional lighting and mounts for fuel canisters, a shovel and other expedition equipment.
