GWM chairman apologizes after Wey poster copied Range Rover Sport creative
Great Wall Motor’s chairman issued a public video apology on March 6, 2026, after an internal investigation confirmed that a promotional poster for the Wey V9X duplicated creative from Land Rover’s Range Rover Sport “Hidden Force” campaign.
The finding names Land Rover as the rights holder and GWM/Wey as the infringing party.
The company said the offending materials would be removed and that it will accept legal and financial responsibility.
Why it matters: the case may lead to copyright claims, financial settlements, and reputational damage for GWM.
It also underscores IP risk in global automotive marketing and may prompt stricter creative vetting across suppliers and agencies.
