BMW recalls 337,000 vehicles worldwide over fire risk tied to routine filter replacement
BMW has issued a global recall for approximately 337,374 vehicles after Germany’s motor-vehicle regulator (KBA) found the cockpit wiring harness can be routed incorrectly during assembly.
The routing can be damaged during a routine cabin air‑filter (microfilter) replacement, creating a risk of short circuit, smoke or fire.
Affected cars named by the KBA include the i7, i5, 5 Series (G60/G61), 7 Series (G70) and the M5 built between June 9, 2022 and December 5, 2025. BMW says dealers will inspect and, where necessary, rework the harness free of charge and that it will contact owners directly.
Why it matters: a common service task could expose vehicles to a safety hazard, boosting dealer workload, prompting regulatory scrutiny, and requiring owners who already had a microfilter change to seek immediate inspection.
