Lamborghini delays planned Urus EV, will keep next-gen Urus as a plug‑in hybrid, CEO says
Automobili Lamborghini signaled a change in its product timing when CEO Stephan Winkelmann confirmed the company will retain a plug‑in hybrid architecture for the next‑generation Urus and postpone a pure‑battery Urus.
Speaking to Autocar and reported widely, Lamborghini cited shifting customer acceptance, regulatory uncertainty and charging infrastructure as reasons to prioritize hybrid development now.
The decision shifts investment away from an immediate Urus EV, preserves Urus profitability as the brand transitions, and gives Lamborghini time to align technology, emissions rules and buyer demand before committing to a full electric Urus.
