We got an early taste of the changes coming to the 2027 Mercedes‑Benz GLE and GLS SUVs
Mercedes‑Benz invited media to drive prototype versions of the refreshed 2027 GLE and GLS on March 5, 2026. Company engineers and test drivers demonstrated key updates: a redesigned interior with circular HVAC vents, standard Superscreen across the dash, an updated inline‑six employed in the GLE plug‑in hybrid, and a more powerful V8 for the GLS.
Mercedes confirmed the electrical architecture was upgraded for stronger cybersecurity, over‑the‑air updates and integrated generative AI.
This matters because the GLE and GLS are core volume and margin models for Mercedes‑Benz.
The powertrain, suspension and software changes aim to raise performance and efficiency while enabling new software services.
Mercedes says the full refresh will debut this spring with sales planned later in 2026, a timing that will affect luxury‑SUV competitiveness and dealer inventories.
