Tata Motors launches JLR plant as first locally assembled Range Rover Evoque rolls off line
Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover opened a new manufacturing facility in Panapakkam, Tamil Nadu, and the state chief minister drove the first locally assembled Range Rover Evoque off the line.
The ₹9,000 crore site is planned to scale to roughly 250,000–300,000 vehicles annually and will supply both domestic and export markets.
Company and state officials say the plant moves JLR from CKD assembly to full local manufacture, will create more than 5,000 direct jobs, and is designed to run on renewable energy with water-positive targets.
The start of Evoque production shortens regional supply chains, supports planned electrified models and integrates India more closely into JLR’s global manufacturing network, with likely implications for local supplier growth, export volumes and pricing dynamics.
