A smaller, more affordable Land Rover Defender is in the works
Land Rover’s Defender director told Autocar the development of a smaller, all-electric Defender is “well advanced,” according to coverage republished on AOL.
The executive confirmed active engineering work on a compact, EV-focused sibling intended to carry Defender capability into a lower-cost package.
The report says details remain limited but that the project is proceeding on the brand’s electric architecture.
Why it matters: a compact electric Defender would expand Defender from a single model into a broader sub-brand.
That matters to buyers, dealers and rivals because it alters product mix, pricing tiers and competitive set.
If delivered, the model would accelerate JLR’s EV roadmap and change supply and production planning.
