Mercedes baby G-Class will offer gas after all
Autoblog reports Mercedes has revised plans for its upcoming compact “Little G” and will offer both electric and internal‑combustion hybrid powertrains, citing Autocar and industry sources.
The automaker is developing the model on a bespoke ladder‑frame architecture and plans production beginning in 2027. Engineers are said to be fitting an EV dual‑motor setup alongside a hybridized 1.5‑liter turbo four for markets where combustion demand persists.
Why it matters: the shift broadens the Little G’s market appeal and reduces risk from soft EV demand.
The decision affects product planning, potential U.S. availability, and competitor positioning in the premium compact off‑roader segment.
