Mercedes-AMG C63 to be replaced by six-cylinder C53
Mercedes‑AMG will end production of the C63 variant that used a turbocharged four‑cylinder plug‑in hybrid and introduce a C53 fitted with a nonhybrid 3.0‑liter inline‑six, CEO Michael Schiebe confirmed.
The inline‑six is drawn from the 2026 CLE53 and produces roughly 443 hp.
AMG says the four‑cylinder hybrid underperformed in market appeal and faces compliance hurdles under incoming Euro 7 emissions rules.
Mercedes plans a refreshed C‑class this year; AMG indicates the high‑power C63 name could return later with a V‑8. The change reduces complexity and weight but trims peak output, affecting AMG’s performance positioning and emissions strategy.
