BMW M boss says an off‑road M could replace the XM
BMW M chief Frank van Meel told media the division is exploring a high‑performance, off‑road flagship that could fill a G‑Class‑sized niche and effectively replace the XM.
He framed the concept as performance‑driven, cited Paris‑Dakar inspiration and suggested the next X5 architecture as a viable base.
Van Meel indicated the idea is under active discussion rather than a finished program.
If pursued, the car would reshape M’s SUV strategy, likely lean on an electrified V8 or hybrid system, target US demand and add six‑figure pricing pressure; suppliers, dealers and the XM nameplate would be directly affected.
