Mercedes-Benz G580 EQ EDITION ONE 2025 The all-new electric G-Class stays true to the model's character, keeping its rugged silhouette, including all the iconic elements. A high-voltage lithium-ion battery integrated into the ladder frame ensures a low center of gravity. With a useful power output of 116 kW/h, it provides sufficient energy for a range of up to 473 kilometers according to WLTP. Four individually controlled electric motors located near the wheels develop a maximum total output of 432 kW. Together with the selectable LOW RANGE for off-road driving, they deliver unique driving characteristics and exclusive features. This allows the G-TURN to turn the vehicle virtually on the spot on loose or uneven surfaces. The G-STEERING function can provide a significantly smaller turning radius when driving off-road. The three-speed intelligent off-road crawl function is similar to cruise control for off-road driving – it maintains optimum traction while the driver concentrates on navigating the terrain. The LOW RANGE off-road transmission increases power with a special gear ratio. The all-new model generates a conventional differential lock function virtually by means of intelligent torque distribution. G-ROAR provides a unique sound in the all-new electric G-Class. The maximum speed is electronically limited to 180 km/h. The all-new electric G-Class uses torque vectoring to create virtual differential locks. This technology allows the torque to be measured precisely for each individual wheel. Since the torque is applied exactly where it is needed in a fraction of a second, the all-new electric G-Class maintains a clean, confident line when climbing and descending, even in the most challenging terrain. Virtual differential lock provides fully variable torque distribution between the individual wheels. The result is maximum traction with maximum flexibility without any distortion in corners. This means that the all-new electric G-Class remains agile and maneuverable at all times, including with virtual differential lock. There is no need to manually activate the differential lock using switches in the off-road control module. Control is fully automatic. This makes it even easier to use and increases driving safety even in difficult conditions. Battery The heart of every electric vehicle is its high-voltage battery. In the all-new electric G-Class, a two-level lithium-ion battery with 216 cells is installed in twelve cell modules between three cooling levels. The battery is integrated into the ladder frame made of steel up to four millimeters thick. This ensures a low center of gravity and makes the entire vehicle significantly stiffer. To protect against water and dirt, the battery is housed in a torsion-resistant housing. This means that the all-new electric G-Class is also ideally equipped for ambitious off-road missions. The battery has a net capacity of 116 kW/h. This gives the all-new Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ technology enough energy for a range of up to 473 kilometers according to WLTP. Charging components and functions The all-new electric G-Class can be charged with both alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC). When charging with alternating current, for example from a wall box, the on-board charger converts the current in the vehicle. It has a maximum charging power of up to 11 kW. For fast DC charging, there is a DC fast charging system with a charging capacity of up to 200 kW on board. In this case, the charging time from 10 to 80% SoC (State of Charge) is around 32 minutes. The all-new electric G-Class has three charging programs – "Standard," "Work," and "Home." Users can configure parameters such as departure time, climate control, and maximum charge level. The "Home" and "Work" charging programs can be activated depending on the location. They are activated automatically as soon as the vehicle is parked at a saved charging location. Users are notified of this in MBUX. Energy recovery during travel with recuperation The recuperative drive system in the all-new electric G-Class offers another way to generate energy. It converts the vehicle's kinetic energy into electricity when coasting and braking. Depending on the selected recuperation level, the electric motors act as generators and charge the high-voltage battery while driving. Recuperation during coasting begins as soon as the driver takes their foot off the accelerator pedal in "D" or "R" mode. The level of recuperation can also be adjusted manually using switches on the steering wheel in "D" mode. The following levels of recuperation are available: DAuto: The vehicle automatically adjusts the intensity of recuperation according to the traffic. The ECO Assistant shows on the instrument display when the driver should take their foot off the pedal. The vehicle then selects the appropriate recuperation intensity. D: No recuperation – the vehicle rolls freely and coasts. D: normal recovery D-: strong recuperation with increased deceleration of the vehicle when coasting D--: maximum recuperation with maximum deceleration of the vehicle when coasting ELECTRIC DYNAMIC SELECT: additional driving program for increased efficiency The characteristics of the all-new electric G-Class can be adjusted at the touch of a button. ELECTRIC DYNAMIC SELECT changes the settings for the engines, transmission, suspension, ESP®, and steering as required. Drivers can choose between the "Comfort," "Sport," and "Individual" driving programs. The "Comfort" program is the standard setting, in which the vehicle moves primarily on one axle for optimum energy consumption. The "Trail" and "Rock" off-road programs are also available and can be conveniently selected using the ELECTRIC DYNAMIC SELECT switch. LOW RANGE: off-road gear reduction for the all-new electric G-Class The all-new Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ technology is equipped with a LOW RANGE switch for off-road driving. Each motor, located next to the wheel, has its own gearbox, which is switched in the center. This ensures the independence of the motors. Each axle has two electric motors, their reduction gears, and a double inverter in a common housing. This configuration helps reduce the off-road ratio, allowing the electric off-roader to be used on difficult terrain. It provides maximum torque and smooth temperature control. A HIGH RANGE setting is also available on the road, ensuring maximum range. In the "Rock" driving program, drivers can activate the LOW RANGE off-road gear reduction using a switch in the off-road control unit. This activates a gear ratio (2:1) that increases torque. Handling and response characteristics are then optimized for powerful excursions on rough, difficult terrain with steep inclines and descents. The maximum speed is limited to 85 km/h. The intelligent off-road crawl function is activated automatically and is always active. Driver assistance systems The all-new electric G-Class comes standard with numerous advanced assistance and safety systems of the latest generation. They use numerous sensors, cameras, and radars to monitor traffic and the vehicle's surroundings. This allows them to noticeably relieve the driver in many everyday situations. Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, among other things, helps the driver maintain a safe distance. The system automatically adapts the speed to slower vehicles ahead. The desired target distance can be set in several levels. Other functions include reacting to stationary vehicles, automatic restart, and automatic speed adjustment. This support is particularly useful for drivers in stop-and-go traffic. In conjunction with route-based speed control, the system can automatically reduce speed before turns, intersections, roundabouts, toll stations, and exits, and then accelerate again. Active Steering Assist uses moderate steering intervention to help drivers stay in their lane at speeds of up to 160 km/h. This is a great stress reliever, especially on monotonous routes. Active Brake Assist uses sensors installed in the vehicle to detect the risk of collision with vehicles in front or at intersections. In the event of an imminent collision, the system can warn the driver visually and acoustically. If braking is too weak, it can also provide support by increasing the braking force accordingly and initiating autonomous emergency braking if there is no response. The active emergency stop system brakes the vehicle to a standstill in its own lane if it detects that the driver has not been driving for a long time. In addition, a short electrical tensioning of the PRE-SAFE® seat belts and a short brake jolt serve as final warnings before the brakes are applied. Active Lane Keeping Assist helps drivers stay in the correct lane. Using a camera, it recognizes when the vehicle is crossing lane markings and the edge of the road. In this way, the system can help drivers avoid accidentally straying from their lane. If there is a risk of collision with recognized road users in the adjacent lane, such as overtaking or oncoming vehicles, the system can also respond with steering interventions and warnings. Active Blind Spot Assist can visually warn of side collisions at speeds of around 10 km/h, as well as an audible warning when the indicator is activated. In addition, the departure warning function can signal before departure that a vehicle (including bicycles) is passing through the critical zone when the vehicle is stationary. ATTENTION ASSIST can recognize typical signs of driver fatigue and inattention. In this way, the system can contribute to road safety, especially during nighttime and long journeys. As soon as it recognizes typical signs of fatigue, it activates visual and audible warning signals and suggests that the driver take a break. The Parking Package with 360° camera provides support when parking and maneuvering the electric G-Class. The virtual bird's-eye view of the 360° camera shows the current position of the vehicle on the media display. In conjunction with visual and acoustic prompts from the active parking assist system with PARKTRONIC, drivers remain in control even in difficult situations. The system can actively assist with reverse parking and also recognize suitable parking spaces at speeds of up to 35 km/h. The PRE-SAFE® preventive passenger protection system can recognize critical driving situations at an early stage and initiate protective measures as a precaution. These include, for example, reversing the seat belt tension or automatically closing open side windows or the sliding glass roof. Depending on the equipment, the front passenger seat can also be moved to a more favorable position in the event of a collision. PRE-SAFE® Sound can prepare passengers' ears for the stress caused by the noise generated during an accident. In the event of an imminent dangerous situation, a special sound chip generates noise through the speakers. In many cases, noise triggers a natural protective reflex: the tiny stapedius muscle in the ear contracts briefly and loosens the connection between the eardrum and the inner ear. The traffic sign assistance system monitors the relevant speed limits and reminds you of them. In addition to standard speed limit signs, the system also recognizes traffic signs and road markings.
